Hamburger Soup

This recipe came from my brother. Thanks, Don.

1 lb. hamburger seasoned with salt and garlic powder
1 16-oz. can stewed tomatoes
1 16-oz. can mixed vegetables
1 16-oz. can tomato sauce
1/4 head cabbage, cut into small pieces
1/2 medium onion, chopped
3 cups water
2 cups V8 juice (optional)

Chop cabbage and onion. Put water and V8 juice, if used, cabbage, and onion in a large pan. Add salt to taste, and start cooking.

Meanwhile, brown meat, add salt and garlic powder to taste. Drain the grease off.

Add tomatoes, mixed vegetables, and tomato sauce to the cabbage mixture. Then add browned, drained meat.

Simmer about 45 minutes until it begins to thicken to your desired thickness.

You can add a little spaghetti or macaroni during last 20 minutes of cooking if so desired.
