Five Flavor Cake

A Watkins recipe.

2 sticks butter or margarine
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
3 cups sugar
5 eggs, well beaten
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon Watkins Baking Powder (no aluminum)
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon Watkins coconut flavor
1 teaspoon Watkins rum extract
1 teaspoon Watkins butter flavor
1 teaspoon Watkins lemon extract
1 teaspoon Watkins vanilla extract

Cream butter, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, which have been beaten until lemon colored. Combine flour and baking powder and add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in Watkins flavors and extracts. Spoon mixture in prepared 10" tube pan and bake at 325 deg. for 1-1/2 hours or until cake test done. Add glaze if desired. Cool in pan about 10 minutes before turning out.

Glaze

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon each: Watkins coconut, rum, butter, lemon, vanilla and almond extracts.

Combine ingredients in heavy saucepan. Bring to boil, stirring until sugar is melted and cook about 2 to 3 minutes. Apply to cake.

*Note: This can also be baked in 13 x 9 pan, about 45 minutes to 1 hour. This recipe was received from a friend. Thanks, Elaine.
