1/2 medium head iceberg lettuce, torn in small pieces
1/2 medium head red-tipped leaf lettuce, torn in small pieces
1 head Bibb or Boston lettuce, torn in small pieces
1/2 purple onion, thinly sliced
1 (11 oz.) can mandarin oranges, drained
1/2 cup toasted walnuts
Sweet-and-Sour Dressing (recipe follows)
Combine first 6 ingredients in a large salad bowl. Pour Sweet-and-Sour Dressing over top; toss to coat. Serve immediately.
Sweet-and-Sour Dressing
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup tarragon vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
Dash pepper
1/8 teaspoon hot sauce
Combine all ingredients in a jar. Cover tightly, and shake vigorously.
Yields about 1 cup.
