Old-Fashioned Gingerbread

This recipe is over 200 years old.

1/2 cup fresh churned butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 tablespoon ginger
1 tablespoon soda
2-1/2 cups plain flour
2 eggs
1-1/2 cups buttermilk

Cream butter and sugar together. Blend in rest of ingredients. Grease and heat a 13 x 9" pan real hot. Pour batter into pan and bake for 40 minutes in 350 deg. oven.

*Note: If you don't have a cow to churn your butter, you'll have to get it at the store. This recipe is entered exactly the way I received it! Or you can check Miscellaneous to make your own butter!
