Sugar Cookie Hearts

1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Topping

1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons milk
Multicolored nonpareils

Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  Blend in eggs and vanilla; mix well.  Stir together flour, salt, and baking soda; mix into sugar mixture until well blended.  Chill 2 hours.

Divide dough into quarters. Roll out one quarter on lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness.  Cut into heart shapes with 2-inch cutter.  Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 deg. for 5 to 8 minutes or until cookies are barely browned at the edges.  Cool on wire rack. Repeat for remaining three quarters.

Mix together confectioners' sugar and milk until smooth.  Spread on cookies; sprinkle with nonpareils.

Makes approximately 6 dozen cookies.
