Oatmeal Scotchies

1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla OR 2 teaspoons grated orange peel
1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 cups oats, quick or old-fashioned, uncooked
1 (12-oz.) pkg. butterscotch flavored morsels

Heat oven to 375 deg.  Beat butter, sugars, eggs, and vanilla until creamy.  Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.  Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture, mixing well.  Stir in remaining ingredients.  Drop by level measuring tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake 7 to 8 minutes for chewy cookies or 9 to 10 minutes for a crisp cookie.  Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet; remove to wire rack. Cool completely.

Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
