Cookie Jar Recipe

This is a neat recipe because you can make the basic recipe, then split it in different portions and add from variations to have several different kinds of cookies.

2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla

Mix flour, baking soda, and salt in small bowl.  Beat butter and both sugars in large bowl with electric mixer until fluffy.  Blend in eggs and vanilla.  Add flour mixture; beat until blended.  Stir in variations of your choice.  Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake at 375 deg. for 8 to 10 minutes.  Cool 2 minutes.  Remove from cookie sheets; cool on wire racks.

Makes 5 dozen cookies.
