Perfect Corn Bread

1 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup corn meal
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/4 cup soft shortening

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in corn meal. Add eggs, milk and shortening. Beat till smooth, about 1 minute. Pour into greased pan, 9 x 9 x 2". Bake at 425 deg F. for 20 to 25 minutes.
